Worship Explorers

For children in Kindergarten - 2nd grade

Worship Explorers is a class for our children in Kindergarten-2nd grade to help them begin to understand how and why we worship in the Presbyterian Church.  In addition to exploring the different parts of worship, this year the children will be learning about the liturgical calendar, working to memorize the Apostle's Creed and the Lord's Prayer, and the special seasons and special days in the church. The class will take place during the 11 a.m. worship service beginning right after Children's Time and ending during The Affirmation of Faith (about 20 minutes).

Way of the Child: Helping Children Experience God

New Session: To be Announced

(For children in K-5th grades)

This enrichment program leads children into a deeper relationship with God, instills in them a spiritual practice to form lifelong habits, encourages them to respond to God, and provides an experience of vital community. Parents are welcome to accompany their children on this journey.

Each week starts with a covered dish dinner, followed by rotation through six stations providing experience and practice in spiritual disciplines.

The Voyagers

Summer Music Camp

For children entering 1st-6th grades

Held at the church each July

9 a.m. - noon; $10 child;

Friday night musical, 6:30 p.m.

Classes include: Music Theory, Meet the Composers; Handchimes/Handbells, and Introduction to Musicial Instruments. The children will also rehearse each day for an end-of-the-week musical. Camp is limited to the first 50 students who register!

Vacation Bible School

Monday-Friday,  9 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

For children 3 years - completed 4th grade

Vacation Bible School at Hidenwood is one of the church's most outstanding programs. Our year-long planning effort, dedicated volunteer coordinators, an exciting curriculum and an abundance of custom-created "environments" brings nearly 50-100 children to the church each year, including many neighborhood children and grandchildren in town for the summer.

Peace of Mind for Parents during Worship

For the safety of our children and the peace-of-mind of our parents, we have a Quiet Call Nursery Pager System. This system allows us to silently alert parents in the sanctuary if they are needed in the newborn nursery, CHAT or playground. We are hoping this will help all of the parents of our youngsters feel more secure and comfortable as they worship. A big thank you goes out to the Presbyterian Women and the Memorial Fund for making this purchase possible.

Church League Basketball!

Children and youth ages 8-15 may participate in coed church league basketball at Hidenwood Presbyterian. The divisions are as follows:

Practices are held on Saturdays, October-December; games begin in January and are played on Tuesday and Thursday nights and a few Saturdays. If you are interested in coaching, please contact league coordinator at 245- 6599. You don’t have to be Coach K to help out!

 FYI: Each year Hidenwood Presbyterian takes part in the coed church league basketball program sponsored by Newport News Parks and Recreation. Our church alone usually fields 4-6 teams of all ages, and welcomes non-church members to join the teams. Teams form and practices begin each October and games are played Tuesday and Thursday nights beginning in January. Other churches in the league include First Baptist Church Denbigh, St. Andrew's Episcopal in Hilton, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and many more. Contact: 757-245-6599
