Stephen Ministry - In 1997 Hidenwood Church began the Stephen Ministry
program under the leadership of Peggy Smith, Shannon Jordan and Miki Vanderbilt.
Since then 27 lay caregivers have received Stephen Ministry training of which
15 are presently active in ministry. Stephen Ministers offer care and support
for people experiencing life difficulties such as the death of a loved one,
job crisis, aging, separation or divorce, long-term illness, or to those needing
the support of a Christian friend. They have received 50 hours of intensive
training covering topics such as effective listening, confidentiality, the
stress of hospitalization, feelings, and utilizing community resources.Hidenwood
Church expects our Stephen Ministry to continue to be a source of warmth,
care and blessing for many years to come, enabling the entire congregation
to grow as a nurturing community where people are cherished and cared for,
and their needs taken seriously, all in the name of Jesus Christ.
Set Free Ministries - at Newport News City Jail.
For many years, Hidenwood Presbyterian Church has financially and personally
supported the ministry at Newport News City Jail. The ministry provides
counseling services on Wednesday afternoons, Bible studies in the cell blocks
on Thursday evenings, and literature and individual Bible lessons on Fridays.
Volunteers must be sponsored by their pastors and approved by the senior
chaplain of SFM and the sheriff's office.
The need for male volunteers to lead Bible studies

International Congo Partnership Ministry
has been supported through prayer, moral and financial contributions
since 1993. The ongoing program of pairing churches and congregations in
the Presbytery of Eastern
Virginia with those in the Presbyterian Church in Kinshasa-Congo (CPK)
has brought us all closer together.

Disaster Assistance is also at work ministering to the victims of
the Nyirangongo Volcano in that region
The Salvation Army. In Early
December f Hidenwood's congregation rang the bell and performed carols
at the Salvation Army Kettle
outside Sam's Club in Newport News. Thanks to the generosity of the shoppers,
the Salvation raised almost $1800 for their programs. Our Church also supports
the Salvation Army's Denbigh Mission..
“Undies” Appreciated
