Join our Lay Readers

The Worship Committee is looking to add to its roll of lay readers for our 11 a.m. service. We encourage both youth and adults who may like to serve the church in this way Click Here to send an e-mail to the Lay Reader Coordinator to call the church office, 596-1151, to indicate your interest. Readers will then be “trained,” and assigned to read on a rotating basis-once a month, or once every few months-depending on the number of volunteers. Deborah Carr coordinates this important ministry.

Support the Scouts!

Looking for some great movie munchies or maybe a late night snack? Consider the delicious Trail’s End popcorn available for purchase from Hidenwood’s own Cub Scout Pack 358. There are nine different delicious varieties to choose from which range in price from $8 - $50. When you make your purchase you are supporting the activities of the pack and the important values and skills taught to boys through scouting. If you don’t know a cub scout, please contact Lisa McKean, this year’s Popcorn Colonel,  (or is that Kernel, Lisa?)

Presbyterian Women’s March Project - Making a Difference in the Congo

One of the most devastating consequences of rebel fighting in the Congo is the many hundreds (thousands?) of Congolese orphans living on the street, and many more housed in one of four Presbyterian centers in Kinshasa. Providing for the needs of these children is a daunting task. We can help. It takes $20 to feed a child in the Congo for a month. As part of an on-going project, the women continue to raise funds for this mission. Those who would like to “sponsor” a child, please forward a donation to our treasurer, Marsha Hahn (c/o church office).

Help with Habitat for Humanity Restore

Gain Support from Our Stephen Ministers

Support: To hold in position so as to keep from falling, sinking or slipping; To keep from failing or yielding during stress.

Support is something we all need. God gives us support through our Christian brothers and sisters. Let us all be sensitive to one another’s needs and take the time to support each other through prayers, phone calls, friendly chats after church and even visits. Please remember that we also have Stephen Ministers who are willing to give their support.  For more information about Stephen Ministry, please call Peggy Smith or Alice Heldenfels,

“When I said, ‘my foot is slipping,’ your love, O Lord, supports me.” (Psalm 94:18)

Join our Flower Guild

Like Flowers? Join the Flower Guild

The Flower Guild has just printed up a new list of volunteers for the coming year, and there is space for additional flower arrangers! Two or three volunteers are assigned to prepare arrangements each month, and the following months need additional people: March, June and August. Call Judy Rauch if you’d like to join the group.

It takes a lot of artistic people to keep the sanctuary adored with fresh flowers each week.

Canes, Wheelchairs, Walkers Available

We have available to loan to members of Hidenwood, items such as walkers, three-pronged and single-pronged canes and wheelchairs. If you are in need of such items please contact Barbara Adams in the church office. Community Service

Did You Know?
The Seaman's Friend House is now called the Seafarer Center. The center, located at 2901 Huntington Avenue, is a ministry which exists primarily to make a home-away-from-home for young men and women who are serving at sea from around the world.
Renovation has been going on for the past six months, including new plumbing, heating and cooling systems, electrical work and landscaping. A wireless internet system has been installed and the seafarers can use computers, view television and play video games, darts and ping-pong. An open house will take place Sunday, June 26, from 2-8 p.m. Volunteer staff is needed daily between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Donate “Drive Time”

The Peninsula Agency on Aging needs volunteer drivers to help senior citizens get to and from their medical appointments. For more information about how you can provide this important service, call 246-1907. What a wonderful way to serve God!

Donate your Used Cell Phone to Transitions

For each cell phone we collect, Shelter Alliance, a private firm located in South Florida, will directly compensate Transitions. All proceeds from the phone collection help the agency to continue to provide emergency shelter, transitional housing, a 24-hour hotline, and a variety of support and self-sufficiency programs to victims of domestic violence on the Peninsula. Drop off used cell phones to the church office. This is an on-going project (no deadline)

Bread for the World

“Help Make Hunger History!” Our Mission Committee has joined a nation-wide letter writing campaign to help stamp out hunger in the U.S. Through the letters the organization Bread for the World is urging Congress and President Bush to “Make Hunger History” by making a commitment to support organizations fighting hunger in U.S. communities and to cut hunger in our country by 50 percent by 2010. You can make your voice heard by writing your own letters, and urging others to write, members of Congress. A letter including the following information, but put in your own words, can help: “I urge you to co-sponsor legislation that calls on both the U.S. Congress and the president to commit to the goals of cutting U.S. food insecurity in half by 2010 and ending hunger in our country by 2015. More than 36 million people are presently threatened by hunger. Now is the time to come together to make hunger history.”
- Bill Sharkey, Mission Committee
